Teletrac Navman will soon be participating in New Zealand’s only all-encompassing transport and heavy equipment showcase known as The Expo*, an event which demonstrates the latest technologies in the sector.

Simplifying processes with telematics

James French, Australasian Solutions Specialist at Teletrac Navman, will be discussing how telematics and real time asset management tracking systems can play a large part in increasing asset utilisation, improving safety and the provision of project related data. He’ll explain how business analytics can be used to show trends on a project over its lifetime, setting benchmarks to help ensure that the New Zealand construction industry remains a competitive market.

He’ll expand on Teletrac Navman offering telematics that simplify the processes required to capture this information, consolidating reporting and equipment analysis, and help to record factors such as fuel burn, fleet utilisation, RUC and maintenance requirements. He’ll also touch on analysis of payload and truckload data and how it allows operators to measure project productivity in comparison to specified targets.

Increasing productivity

The heavy construction industry in New Zealand has traditionally had lower productivity than other sectors within the construction industry. The building and productivity partnership between the New Zealand Government and the private sector, which are aiming for a 20% increase in productivity by 2020, means contractors will need to find ways to improve asset utilisation and reduce costs, a solution already under way with the help of telematics.

As Mr French will point out during his presentation at The Expo, it’s important to note that with the creation of such performance advantages, which assist with project planning and performance tracking, production is increased through improved safety and asset utilisation costs can be controlled and the data can be used to calculate future project costs to help contractors with their bids.
